I took advantage of some free time and hot weather to revisit a trail that I hadn't been on in a few years. The D&L Trail - Lehigh Canal Southl trail connects Allentown to Palmer Township. The trail surface varies from secton to secton, ranging from typical dual rutted bike path to something more like a singe track path, to a paved and landscaped section near the east end.
The path is a bit rockier than I am used to ... But not unmanageable ... If you have skinny road bike tires you might have some trouble but my hybrid did fine. The trail takes an unmarked jog near the Bethlehem Boat Club, made worse by how rough the trail becomes.
There was a little traffic on the trail as I passed a half dozen groups of bikers on the entire length of the trail. There were also plenty of people enjoying the parks and water along the river.
All in all I'd give this trail a 4 out of 5... Due in part to the rough surface and the unmarked jog mid trail and the lack of trail side amenities... It's a good trail with a few rough edges...
