D & L Trail - Asher F. Boyer Trail

On Saturday I took a ride on a section of trail I've driven by many times but never been able to find time to ride... It was a nice day for a ride and the trail is in really good shape ...

The trail was in good shape and it was a perfect day for a bike ride ...I had a little trouble finding a place to park and ended up stealing some parking space from the access road at the trail head ...

The trail is mostly flat and it winds along the riverside ... There are a few spots like this one where you can get a good view of the river ... But mostly there is a line of trees separating the trail from the water ... The trail passes by some homes and buildings ... And the occasion sounds of people enjoying there weekend could be heard ...

There are lots of old rail road ties to remind you of the heritage of this trail ... It was interesting to see how nature has been slowly reclaiming the land ...

After about an hour and ten minutes I made it to my turn around point ... There was clearly something being set up in the community park are of Slatington ... When I got there a BBQ truck was just starting ... Too bad it was going to be 4 more hours until they would have food to sell ...

On my return trip I stopped to help Dave and Larry ... Dave had developed a flat tire and neither of them had spares or a repair kit .. I still had the repair kit from last years big ride so I offered to help patch up the tire ... It turns out that Dave had 4 holes in his tube ... I patched him up and got them back on their way ... It was nice to know that even though I haven't fixed a flat in nearly 30 years thatI was  able  to help out (even with the pathetic excuse for repair patches in my kit) ...

The plan ... For now ...

I started this log as a way to share my big solo trip last year... For a number of reasons it doesn't look like ill be able to do a big ride this year ... So I've come up with a plan ...

The closest trails to me are sections of the D & L Trail ... The total trail covers 168 miles and currently there are three major sections ... My challenge for this year is to bike as many sections of the trail as I can before the end of July..

To that end ..I took two rides this weekend ... Covering Northampton to Slatington and Slatington to Lehighton ... That only about 16 miles ... But it's a start...

2013 Biking season ... Off to a slow start ...

I finally made time together out on the bike ... The bike season isn't over by a long shot but I had hoped to log a few trips before July 4th ... There were a million little distractionsthatkept me off the trails ..

On Sunday I was able to sneak in a quick 6mileride on the Ironton Rail Trail ... It was a good way to see if I still had my "trail legs"...

The trail was in good shape after some heavy rains ... There was a short detour which was only a problem because it required you to go up a rather steep incline and I hadn't really prepared myself for it ... Other than that the ride was a nice 30 minute trek...

I discovered that the battery in my bike odometer had died so I'll need to replace that before my next ride...

Apparently I forgot to take photos of  my ride ... Oops ...
